Disappointing homecoming for BLR at Cordele
Georgia-based Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) had hoped for an impressive showing during the zMAX CARS Tour’s first-ever visit to the Peach State on Saturday. However, all three of the team’s Chevrolet SS race cars failed to finish the Pro Late Model portion of the Byron Outdoor Superstore 225 at Cordele Motor Speedway.
BLR started the evening strong at the 4/10-mile oval in Cordele, Georgia, as each of its drivers qualified in the top 10 in the 33-car field. Tyler Reif turned in the sixth-quickest time in his No. 47 Chevrolet, Brody Monahan qualified ninth in his No. 31 Whelen machine, and Brandon Lopez was 10th in his No. 6 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction ride.
However, the night went south in the 100-lap race.
First, Reif had a mechanical problem on the 40th circuit while running inside the top five. Just a lap later, Monahan was collected in a massive pileup on the frontstretch due to a missed shift at the front of the field on a restart. Finally, Lopez was turned into the inside wall on the ensuing restart on lap 42.
Ultimately, Lopez claimed the 18th spot in the finishing order, Monahan took 21st and Reif came home 25th.
