T.J. DeCaire scores $5,000 CARS Tour PLM victory at Tri-County
Saturday’s zMAX CARS Tour SoundGear 225 at Tri-County Speedway saw T.J. DeCaire grab his first Pro Late Model win with the series in his 23rd career start.
Piloting the No. 47 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS from Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR), DeCaire qualified fourth out of 20 cars on the 4/10-mile track in Hudson, North Carolina. He moved into the runner-up position near the quarter point of the 100-lap, $5,000-to-win Pro Late Model main event and maintained the spot until taking over the lead on lap 72. He remained out front the rest of the race, holding off Bayler Currey and surviving multiple late restarts along the way. DeCaire’s margin of victory was just 0.266 seconds over Currey. Isaac Kitzmiller, Ben Maier and T.J. Duke completed the top five.
BLR’s other two entries at Tri-County were also strong throughout the evening. Luke Baldwin qualified the No. 7NY Garden State Honda Chevy from the BLR stable fifth for Saturday’s contest. He ran in the top five for much of the race and was fifth on lap 97 when contact ended his night. He turned in a 13th-place result.
Brandon Lopez qualified BLR's No. 6 LeeBoy Chevy third and led from laps three to 71 before being called for a restart violation, giving DeCaire the lead. Lopez ultimately came home 14th with a DNF when he was collected in the late accident involving teammate Baldwin.
With one race remaining, Lopez is second in the point standings, 45 markers behind leader Ben Maier.
