Top-5 result for BLR at South Boston, Brandon Lopez makes LMSC debut
At South Boston Speedway on Saturday, Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) entered a trio of cars in the Autos By Nelson Race Night with the zMAX CARS Tour. In addition to fielding its two familiar Pro Late Models, the team took on the Late Model Stock division for the first time, with Brandon Lopez pulling double duty. During the night, BLR picked up one podium finish.
The Pro Late Model portion of the program at the 4/10-mile oval in South Boston, Virginia, attracted 16 teams seeking the $5,000 winner’s share. Lopez qualified fifth in his No. 6 LeeBoy Chevrolet SS while his teammate, Tyler Reif, turned in the eighth-quickest time in BLR's No. 47 Chevy.
Lopez moved forward through the 100-lapper and finished third behind Keelan Harvick and Ben Maier. Harrison Burton and Isaac Kitzmiller completed the top five. Meanwhile, Reif settled for 15th with a DNF after making hard contact with the inside wall in turn three during the race. He was unhurt in the accident.
Lopez is currently second in the CARS Tour Pro Late Model standings, just 30 points behind leader Maier. Reif sits ninth while running a limited schedule.
Also on Saturday, Lopez made his debut in the Late Model Stock portion of the zMAX CARS Tour, driving the No. 6 Chevrolet in a 27-car field. He qualified 10th for the 125-lap, $10,000-to-win main event and turned in a consistent performance until being caught up in multiple accidents. He ultimately elected to pull in before the last green-white-checkered restart and scored a 21st-place result.
