Top-10 result at Caraway for Chase Burgeson
A pair of races at Caraway Speedway were on the docket for Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) over the weekend as the zMAX CARS Tour took on the 0.455-mile oval in Sophia, North Carolina. In an up-and-down event for the team’s three cars, BLR secured one top-10 finish in the TCPS Plumbing & Septic 250.
On Saturday, Chase Burgeson qualified 15th out of 23 Pro Late Model entries in his No. 22 Burgeson’s Heating, A/C, Electrical, Solar & Plumbing Toyota Camry. Also in the Pro Late Model ranks, fellow BLR driver and defending race winner Brandon Lopez qualified eighth aboard his No. 6 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS. Lopez then set the fourth-quickest qualifying time among 34 Late Model Stock Cars. He did so behind the wheel of his No. 6 CW Matthews Contracting Co. Chevy prepared by Trevor Ward Motorsports.
Just as the night’s features were about to get underway, rain moved in, pushing the conclusion of the program to the following day.
In Sunday’s 100-lap, $4,000-to-win Pro Late Model contest, Burgeson moved forward early before left-rear contact shuffled him back to 18th. After the BLR crew made repairs in the pits, he proceeded to click off spots once again and finished 10th. Lopez struggled with tire stagger throughout the race and ultimately retired early with handling issues, claiming an 18th-place result.
The 125-lap, $7,000-to-win Late Model Stock race saw Lopez stay in the top 10 for much of the first half before fading late. He came home 19th in the 30-car field.
